May Day Baskets

Happy May Day! May Day celebrations have been taking place since ancient times but it seems to be a day that gets overlooked in North America. In Italy, it's regarded as the happiest day of the year ... and how could it not be when you have the chance of waking up to flowers hanging on your doorknob? That should brighten anyone's day!

For years, I've wanted to surprise my neighbors with May Day baskets ... this year it finally happened! I used a simple (and green) idea found on the Martha website and recycled our tin cans into cute containers filled with flowers. I went a step further and embellished the cans with scrapbook paper and added a metal tag. The site has a cute idea for paper cones as well.

It's not too late to whip up a basket and surprise a friend. And if you're really in a celebratory mood? Fashion yourself a maypole and learn a few dances!
